You can learn a lot about a district by looking at its Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion webpage. Here, for example, is Austin ISD’s Equity Office. Looks anodyne perhaps—unless you understand that equity does not mean equal opportunity. It means state-enforced equal outcomes. Pretty sounding words that actually mean something sinister.
This message is reinforced by the resources that the district recommends. For example, the AISD webpage links to “Basic Principles for Equity Literacy.” When you click the link, you’ll see an 8-point list that is founded in neo-Marxian ideology with terms like “structural racism,” “a lens and an ideological commitment,” “redistribution of material, cultural, and social access and opportunity.” This type of thinking shows a progressive political ideology that demonstrates the woke capture of the district.
I did laugh out loud at #8: “The Evidence-Informed Equity Principle: Equity initiatives should be based on evidence for what works rather than trendiness. ‘Evidence’ can mean quantitative research, but it can also mean the stories and experiences of marginalized people in your institution.” HAHAHAHA. As if. As if the proponents of this woke ideology have produced ANY evidence that their garbage neo-Marxian principles make things better. As if “stories and experiences” provide evidence of success. They’re saying, “Let’s use stories and experiences to prove our strategies work.” Why do they turn to stories and experiences? Because they have NO quantitative evidence. Because fundamentally, this ideology is unscientific and unserious. Because fundamentally this ideology is a joke.
At the end of the day, AISD schools are mess because of a culture of victimhood and blame. And because no one in leadership has the courage to say that no matter what system you’re in, individual choices matter. Do you see that message anywhere on on the equity webpage? That tells you all you need to know about the failure culture of the district.
