A Social and Emotional (SEL) teacher in Austin ISD proudly tweeted this picture yesterday. It’s a pamphlet made by some middle-school students to teach their peers about Equal Pay Day.
Sadly, the kids have been taught a lie.
And it only takes one question to expose the lie:
Look at the groups of women listed.
Who’s missing?
Yup, Asian-American women.
Why are Asian-American women not listed? Because, on average, Asian-American women make more money than white men.
And with that, the canard of Equal Pay Day is exposed.
“Equal Pay Day” is a lie. Turns out that men and women with the same education, experience, commitment to work get paid the same. Women are not being paid less because they are women.
Think I’m wrong? Try to find a study that shows that the alleged pay gap has anything to do with discrimination. You can’t find one. At least not a credible one.
Women may be paid less because they have less experience, less education, less consistency in one location, less flexibility to move for a job, less commitment to work long hours, less time to work because they’re expected to raise kids, less time to work because they want to raise kids, less interest in STEM careers, less willingness to take a job that might kill them.
But they’re not paid less because they’re women.
Frankly, if qualifications are the same, often they’re more likely to get hired than white men. In fact, a black woman with all the right credentials? Holy cow, she might even be chosen as vice president or nominated to the Supreme Court.
Good gravy. What a great country! You work hard. You study hard. You learn hard things. You get paid.
Right, Asian-American women?
Critical Theory, Both the Race & Gender Kind, Are Taught in AISD
So is that the lesson the Social & Emotional teachers are teaching in AISD? Nope. They’re teaching bad stats and pity-party pamphlet making. They’re teaching AISD kids how to see the world through the garbage lens of Critical Theory.
But good old AISD. They’re not just teaching the praxis of applied Critical Theory. They’re teaching the actual THEORY of Critical Theory. Both Critical Race Theory AND Critical Gender Theory. To middle schoolers.
Check out the first page of the pamphlet. These middle-school students are being taught actual Intersectional Critical Theory.
And this sums up the dumpster fire that is AISD. Someone thought that it was more important to spend time on Intersectional Critical Theory than it was to teach these kids math.
Gosh, I can’t imagine why, based on education, some people are paid less than other people. It’s a mystery. 🤷♀️🤷♂️
NO, NO, IT’S NOT A MYSTERY.
The lesson is so crystal clear: Most middle-school students in AISD are taught boo-hoo, woe-is-me, this-country-is-so-racist-and-misogynistic intersectional Critical Theory.
But some middle-school students aren’t wasting their time taking classes in grievance studies. Nope.
They’re, right now, sitting in Honors Algebra II and Pre-AP biology, getting ready to take over the world. They’re learning the math they need to own the SAT. They’re getting the science they need to rock the AP tests. They’re learning real academics. They’re getting the lesson that nothing can hold you back, Sister.
Don’t get me wrong. To the detriment of our country, they’re still being showered in intersectional grievance theory. But they’re adding it to their education, not exchanging it for their education. (Which means, someday, these students will be paid handsomely to run woke companies and inflict more discredited critical theory on the rest of us.)
(And, btw, I’m assuming that this pamphlet wasn’t made by 8th-grade Asian-American students taking Algebra II. I don’t know. Maybe. If so, we can discuss which scenario is more indicting of AISD.)
And don’t get me wrong here either: There are problems in our system that connect race, poverty, and crappy school districts. Huge problems. But these problems don’t get addressed when school districts focus on manufactured issues and distort and lie about root causes. These problems don’t get addressed when AISD teaches Critical Theory to middle schoolers instead of real academics.
Bottom line: this pamphlet is just one tiny glimpse into how AISD kids are being screwed. They’re being programmed to see the world through a Critical Theory lens, which makes for bitter, helpless, self-pitying citizens. “Oh, wah, I’m not paid because I’m a Hispanic woman. And I’m doubly discriminated against because I’m Hispanic and a woman.”
Baloney. You’re not getting paid because someone wasted your time in middle school. Because someone in AISD had such low expectations for you that she didn’t demand you learn hard math. She didn’t demand that you see yourself as someone who could take over the world. She sold you out so she could indoctrinate you into her woke politics. Did she ever once show you the criticisms of Intersectional Theory? Nope. She programmed you to see it as Truth.
And it’s a self-fulfilling prophecy. All that time spent learning Critical Theory IN MIDDLE SCHOOL meant time not spent learning real knowledge.
And that’s what the pamphlet should say: “Here are the facts: If you don’t have real knowledge, you don’t get paid.”
Well, unless you become an SEL teacher or a DEI consultant or some other cog in the billion+ dollar grievance industry.
