Thank you to all our Eanes community members who have placed Eanes for Equity signs in their yards.
It makes it easy to identify the hypocrites.
I mean, let’s be honest: before you bought your house in the Eanes ISD, you had a choice: you could have chosen a district with more racial diversity.
But you didn’t.
You had a choice, and you picked excellence.
It’s not the District’s fault—and it’s certainly not your neighbors’ fault—that your kids don’t go to a more racially diverse school. It’s yours.
You chose meritocracy over diversity.
You chose excellence over equity.
You chose quality over inclusion.
When you bought your million-dollar home, you bought in Eanes ISD because the District is excellent. You wanted the best possible Austin education for your children.
You had a choice.
Had you wanted diversity, you could have scooted just a bit down the road and bought a house in AISD. Westlake High School and Austin High are fewer than five miles apart; Westlake and Crockett HS are fewer than six.
Frankly, you still have a choice. Is racial diversity more important to you than an excellent education? Are you really all about Eanes for Equity? If you are, sell your house and move into AISD.
Don’t get me wrong. I don’t think your choice was wrong. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with buying a house in the best district you can afford. There’s nothing wrong with choosing a district in which meritocracy and excellence are the primary goals.
The problem? When, despite your own behavior, you allege that the District is somehow damaged for providing the very thing you asked for.
You claim you’re all about Eanes for Equity. But really? When given the choice, you didn’t pick diversity or equity or inclusion. You chose excellence. And now, looking at your yard sign, we also know you chose hypocrisy.
