Not a grift AT ALL

Incidentally, did anyone really think that the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion consultant was going to come into Eanes, administer his woke survey, and conclude that everything was hunky dory?  Was there any universe in which the consultant was ever going to look at the District and conclude that things were in good shape?

I mean, it’s almost as if he wrote a woke survey in which no matter what the results were, he could tell the School Board that they needed more of his services.  Weird.  Not a grift AT ALL.

(To be fair, has there ever been a DEI consultant who didn’t find a need for more DEI services?  That’s kind of their game.  You always need more consulting because there’s always more Race and Racism™.)

“Uh, the, uh, results of my survey show that the campus climate is a, uh, 3.2 on the Likert scale, and that means, uh . . .” <long pause to fiddle with secret decoder ring> “you’ve got much Race and Racism™.  You need to continue Doing the Work™.  In fact, I’ve compiled a list of 227 more action items that I can help you with next year.  That will be $140K.”

Wouldn’t it be nice if there was even a slight possibility the consultant would have seen Eanes as the earnest and thoughtful community that it is?  He could have noticed that community members are fighting over the opportunity to join the DEI committee.  He could have seen community members and students and staff enthusiastically volunteering to participate in conversations about race and racism.  He could have highlighted the teachers and administrators who would do anything to make sure all students feel like they belong.  He could have seen a District committed to excellence, with students of all racial groups out-performing students from across the state.  It’s a community in which most people never utter a malicious, racially insensitive word and have nothing but their neighbor’s best interest at heart.

He could have noticed these things and concluded that the District didn’t need him.

Yet, somehow, that didn’t happen.  Instead, the DEI consultant showed up and, surprise, surprise, found the District wanting.  Boy, the savvy Eanes School Board never could have seen that coming!
